PILSNER
TRIBE FALL TIGERS NEXT August 18, 2008
It is on to the 2nd round for the Cubs as they defeated the Surrey Indians 9-4. The Cubs collected 13 hits on their way to the win. Jason Emery and Robin Westie led the hit parade, each going 3 for 3. Ken Enns put the final nail in the Indians coffin with a 3 run BOMB in the 6th. Todd Boulanger and Colin Dawes both contributed with solid pitching only allowing 3 hits in the 9 inning game. All Indian runs were unearned.
Up next for the Cubs is a trip to Ladner for a 2nd round date with the rival Delta Tigers. The last time these 2 teams met the Cubs went away with a 9-4 victory. With a win against the Tigers this weekend the Cubs would advance to the semi-finals for the first time in franchise history.
Game time 12:00pm @ D Morrison Park in Ladner.
TRIBE COMING TO TOWN FOR FIRST ROUND August 11, 2008
With a 6-6 tie on the weekend against the Giants the Cubs sat in 3rd place at the end of the regular season. That being said, the first round of the playoffs are set and the Cubs will meet the Surrey Indians at Fairfield park Aug 17 @ 11:00 am. The last time these two teams met was the first game of the year which the Cubs won 10-7. The Cubs will look to do more of the same come Sunday seeing as though it is one game knock out style playoff.
BREAKING NEWS July 29, 2008
After the 8-5 win verses the Newton Royals the Cubs sat tied for 2nd place with the Delta Tigers with one game remaining. LMBA commissioner had been on vacation for 2 weeks and had not released the final opponent for the Chilliwack crew. Until now. It's official Aug 10 @ 11:00am at Fairfield Island the Cubs will look for redemption as they take on the first place Aldergrove Giants. Although the standings state that the Giants are in first place it is obvious that they had a some what SOFT schedule. The Cubs will look to take the final game of the year and bring their record to 10-4-1.
WALK IT OFF CUBS!!! July 13, 2008
It was back and forth for 8 innings between the Cubs and Padres on Sunday. With the game tied in the bottom of the 8th Pierce Rutley led off the inning with a walk then Jason Emery dropped a 1-1 bunt down the first base line to get Rutley into scoring position. Robin Westie grounded out advancing the runner to 3rd base bringing up Colin Dawes with 2 outs runner on third. Dawes took a 1-0 pitch and lined it into right field for the walk off hit. Chilliwack won the game 8-7. With solid pitching and hitting the Cubs record is now 8-4.
Next game is at Mackie Park July 20th when the Cubs take on the Delta Dodgers.
CUBS TAKE ONE IN BURNABY June 24, 2008
It was a total team effort for the Cubs on Sunday as they dumped the Mathers Division leaders Burnaby Yankees 7-4. The Cubs had 13 hits in the 9 inning game 5 which were for extra bases. The large dementions of Robert Burnaby park didn't seem to bother the Cubs as Brent Durie and Ken Enns both went deep into the trees. Colin Dawes John Riediger and Brent Durie were also effective on the mound surrendering only 6 hits walking only 3 and striking out 13. The next game is back at home for the Cubs as they take on the defending league champions Richmond Black Sox. Game time 11:00am.
CUBS BEAT CUBS June 15, 2008
Errors seemed to be the order of the day for the Cubs on Sunday. Plays in which the Cubs made look effortless earlier in the season now seems to be the biggest hurdle to over come. Six errors were commited all in which Newton turned into unearned runs. On a brighter note the Cubs pounded out 14 hits in the 12-8 defeat. The Cubs record now drops to 6-3. Next game is at Robert Burnaby park as the Cubs look to break out of this funk as they take on the Yankees. Game time 5:00pm
CUBS CAN'T DODGE DELTA June 9, 2008
What can I say. WE LOST!!! @#$%
REDEMPTION June 1, 2008
After getting knocked out of the playoffs by the Rockies in the 2nd round last year, the Cubs were looking to redeem themselves on Sunday. It started a little rough as the Rockies came out swinging scoring 3 runs in the 1st while the Cubs didn't help themselves by commiting 3 errors in the inning. After the 1st inning though it was all Cubs. Chilliwack collected 10 hits over the 9 inning game and took advantage of Newton errors. Brent Durie came in to close the game down in the 6th inning and was lights out. Durie struck out 6 only allowed 1 base on balls and didn't surrender any runs.
When all was said and done on Sunday the Cubs walked away with a 10-3 win bringing their season record to 6-1 and remain in first place in the Mathers division.
OUCH!!!! May 26, 2008
The baseball gods were frowning on the Cubs this Sunday. First coach Emery forgot the scorebook, then Robin Westie forgot the wiffle balls to warm up with, then to top it all off lead off hitter Galen Johnston forgot his ball pants. Yes folks his F#@!ing pants. With Johnston being one of the Cubs hottest hitters the Cubs scrammbled to find replacement pants. Josh Stroup offered to give up his pants to help the team but the difference in waist size seemed to be too much to overcome.
Also the Cubs as a team seemed to forget their bats in Chilliwack as they only managed 4 hits against Aldergrove and commited more errors in this one game than they had made all year thus far. Full credit to Giant pitchers as they caused the Cubs to ground out 13 times.
Maybe the 2 week break was too long for the Cubs as timing looked a little off.
The Cubs look to bounce back next week against the Newton Rockies as the Cubs travel back home. Game time 11:00am
JUST ANOTHER VICTIM May 11, 2008
The Langley Padres came to Chilliwack Sunday morning looking to improve their record to 3-2. Unfortunately for them they ran into the #1 team in the LMBA. The Chilliwack Cubs.
Cubs pitching once again toyed with opposing batters striking out 12 walking only 3 and allowing 7 hits over the 9 inning game. Cubs bats remained hot collecting 12 hits on their way to the 9-2 victory.
The Cubs continue to play solid baseball from lights out pitching from Colin Dawes and Todd Boulanger defensive gems from Pearce Rutley and Rob Kennedy and timely hitting from all players. The Cubs remain on top the LMBA with a 5-0 record.
Next game is away May 25th against the rival Aldergrove Giants starting at 6:00pm as the Cubs look to keep the streak alive and improve to a perfect 6-0.
FINALLY !!! May 5, 2008
May 4th 2008 is a day that Cubs veteran players had been waiting for a long seven years. The Chilliwack squad finally beat the Delta Tigers after going 0-9 over the past seven years. The final score was 9-4 in favor of the Cubs. The offense pounded out 12 hits lead by Galen Johnston who crushed 2 homeruns and 4 RBI in the outing. Cubs pitching held the Tigers bats at bay only allowing 5 hits and only 3 earned runs.
The Cubs now are in sole possesion of 1st place in their division with a perfect 4-0 record. Their next game is May 11th back home at Fairfield at 11:00 am as they look to extend their perfect streak when they take on the Langley Padres.
HEARTBREAKING WIN FOR THE CUBBIES April 27, 2008
With two down in the bottom of the 9th the no-hitter was still in tact. Then the impossible happened. Brewers hitter #42 managed to dribble one down the 3rd base line and on the rain soaked field 3rd baseman Galen Johnston slipped and wasn't able to come up with a strong enough throw to get the Brewer batter thus spoiling the no-hitter.
Cubs pitching was fantastic this Sunday afternoon but nothing could compare to the defensive clinc put on by the Cubs infielders. Second baseman Pearce Rutley was absolutely insane making diving play after diving play. Nick Pocklington Rob Kennedy and Galen Johnston also made some outstanding defensive plays.
At the end of the 9 inning affair in Burnaby Chilliwack pounded out 10 hits with a one hit pitching performance got their second straight shut out beating the Brewers 4-0 bringing the Cubs record to 3-0 on the season.
Next up is the Delta Tigers a team the Cubs always seem to have a bit of a problem with. Game time is 4:00pm at Winskill Park in Tssawwassen.
COLD WEATHER = HOT BATS April 20, 2008
On a bitter cold Sunday morning in Chilliwack the home team Cubs managed to heat up their bats pounding out 15 hits on their way to a 16-0 win over the expansion Fighting Irish. Cubs pitchers once again showed their dominance striking out 14 of the 24 outs recorded. Next game is away for the Cubs as they travel to Central Park in Burnaby to take on the Brewers. Game time 1:30 pm.
OPENING DAY April 13, 2008
The rain managed to stay away long enough Sunday morning for the Cubs to take their first win of the 2008 season. The Cubs pitching seemed to be too much for the Surrey Indians. Colin Dawes and Todd Boulanger struck 15 Indians batters out in the 8 inning game. The Cubs offense was led by 4 different hitters with multiple hits. The next game is at Fairfield Island Apr. 20 when the Cubs square off against the expansion North Delta Fighting Irish. Game time 11:00 am
